Addis Ababa, April 25, 2023 (FBC) – The long-awaited consultation forums of the national Transitional Justice have begun nationwide in various cities of the country.

The Ministry of Justice announced that the regional level transitional justice consultation forums will be held in 58 cities from April to August.

The Ministry of Justice stressed the need to build a system where justice is fully served and lasting peace, reconciliation and the rule of law are maintained based on the problems the country has been facing.

A wide range of activities have been undertaken In order to make the transitional justice system successful, and implement the process in a complete and coordinated manner, the Ministry indicated.

To prepare a transitional justice policy, a preliminary document for transitional justice policy options has been devised by a group of senior experts organized by the ministry.

Ministry added the time has been scheduled for the consultation to be held at the regional level in 58 cities across the nation between April and August, 2023.

The first round of the consultation has been held in Adama City involving participation of individuals and stakeholders representing all sections of the society.

Inputs important for the formulation of the transitional justice policy option document have been garnered from the consultation held in Adama. The Ministry added that similar forums will be held in 15 different cities of the Oromia region in the next two weeks.
