In a historic move that marks a significant shift in global economic dynamics, Ethiopia has officially become the newest member of the BRICS group, comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The inclusion of Ethiopia not only extends the BRICS alliance into the African continent but also holds the potential to reshape geopolitical and economic landscapes.
H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia expressed his enthusiasm about the country’s new role within BRICS stating, “Ethiopia stands ready to cooperate with all for an inclusive and prosperous global order”.
The decision was announced during the 15th BRICS Summit held in South Africa, at the Sandton Convention Centre. Alongside Ethiopia, several other nations including Argentina, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Iran have also been granted membership in this transformative expansion of the BRICS alliance.
