In April 2022, Wachemo University and Durban University of Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate in several areas of study. To discuss the implementation of the partnership, a delegation led by Associate Professor Habtamu Abebe, President of Wachemo University, visited Durban, South Africa from April 2-6, 2023, to discuss the implementation of the partnership.
The universities have agreed to collaborate in the areas of Biotechnology, Agro-Processing, Water and wastewater treatment, Medical Tourism, Sustainable Energy, Peace and Security, and Pan-Africanism. They have also identified student exchange, research seminars, and online lectures as initial steps towards implementing their collaboration.
During their visit, the Wachemo University delegation toured different academic and research units at three campuses of Durban University of Technology: ML Sultan, Ritson, and Steve Biko.
In addition, the delegation met with H.E. Ambassador Dr. Muktar Kedir and diplomats at the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Pretoria to discuss further partnership initiatives. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for the universities to deepen their collaboration and explore ways of working together towards common goals.
