The spokesperson for Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Meles Alem, briefed the media today (December 15) about the various diplomatic activities over the past two weeks.

He stated that H.E. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s visit to the United States created an opportunity to strengthen ties with the United States and renew cooperation with international organizations.

Ambassador Meles Alem also mentioned the press briefing of H.E. Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, to the ambassadors of the European Union and its member countries in Addis Ababa.

He said the European Union and the Union’s member nations stated their desire to advance economic and diplomatic ties with Ethiopia, while Mr. Demeke spoke about the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement and resumption of basic services in conflict-affected areas.

Ambassador Meles also mentioned the repatriation of more than 3,000 of our citizens from Saudi Arabia and efforts underway to investigate the death of Ethiopian citizens on the outskirts of the Zambian capital.
